18 Feb 1997: Trial win
Manly defeated Sydney City 26-22 in a trial at
Leeton on the weekend
14 Feb 1997: Solo released
Manly have released Soloman Haumono from the final year
of his contract. Haumono joins the Bulldogs for the 1997
season.
13 Feb 1997: Roosters trial
Manly have named a strong line-up for Saturday's trial
against Sydney City in Leeton. The team is Hancock,
Moore, Innes, Hill, Hopoate, Lyons, Field, Gartner,
Menzies, Gillespie, Carroll, Fulton, Tierney. Captain
Geoff Toovey is still recovering from a hernia operation.
10 Feb 1997: Eagles disappoint in Sevens
Manly put in a poor performance in the ARL World Sevens
on the weekend, losing both their preliminary round matches.
After defeating Japan in the Plate Quarter-Finals, the
Sea Eagles then bowed out when they went down 16-14
to South Queensland in the semi-finals.
The Eagles' next match is a trial against the Sydney
City Roosters in Leeton, to be played this weekend.
05 Feb 1997: Manly favourites
The Sea Eagles are 3/1 favourites to take out the ARL World
Sevens on the weekend. Manly won the tournament in both 1994
and 1995, but with Cliff Lyons playing for the Aboriginal team
last year, were unable to make it a hat trick.
