MANLY SUX
GO THE ROOOOOSTERS
MANLY SUCK AND R THE WORST EVER TEAM IN THE COMPETION AND U SUCK TO. GO THE BEARS!!!!
we have been following manly for years and bloody years and at the present moment we are just on a little downer (heads up fellas") there is no doubt that we have the ability to smash any other side in the comp on our day but maybe we might be just missing that little something called "balls!!!!" fair dinkum get a bit of mongrel up you's and bobby hows about getting scotty home at 3.30pm on Sundays to do his house chores cause he might nearly be a better croquet player than my grandmother as she couldn't play football. I think terry hill should be a little more involved even to see him play at inside centre cause that other idiot centre oljenik would need a compass to find out which end the oppositions try line is. but when it all comes down to the crunch we will always be the best and confucious once said, those footballers that wank over a till will always come into money!!!.
go manly!!!! and one more poem before I go
we have a message to coach bob
pull your finger out and do your job
the safest play, the only drill

I have nothing exciting to say except to sum up that everyone is thinking the same thing - get rid of Mr big head Craig Field, drop Scott Fulton for good and bring back Spud. Hes homesick so someone SOS him for Manlys sake. Cliffy is a legend and Manly fire so much better with him,we need him,why isnt he playing more of the game? Does the footy club tune into this page,do they take note of what us die hard Manly fans think. What does anyone think about replacing Bob Fulton with Fatty???? At least he would bring some spirit, fun, smiles and hopefully some determination back to us. Maybe things are stale,11 years?? is a long time.Good to see we"ve stopped wingeing,we were beginning to look like the team we have been accused of being forever. I think Ben and Simones team is great, yes I agree we should have never let Nevin,Cleary and Elsegood go.Heres to a good game in Canberra.
How about we print the last few pages and fax them to the football club, you never know maybe they would take notice of our comments. Maybe the selectors and coach are too close to see whats wrong???

C'mon guys im a hugh fan and i know that you will bounce back, however i want to get things off my chest. My name is Ross im live in Hervey Bay Qld but was born near Lithgow, so i have been a big fan of Manly and football since my dad started to kick the ball to me in the backyard. Things that are really starting to annoy me about Manly is the fact that rather then play footy,it seems that they just want to stand around and whinge about it.Now c'mon you have some of the finest players in the world , so rather then standing around whinging how about you play the game. A perfect example of this is on Friday night against Parramatta Graig Field had a perfect opportunity to score but rather then tap the ball and dive over the line he had to get up complaining to the ref about coping a high shot. In the first game of the season yeah sure the calls were going the wrong way but rather then cry all the time why not smash the other team and win against the odds. Ill finish with the comment that Steve Menzies is my favourite all time player but what happened to being in the top five in the leading try scores, you can't tell me the games are any harder because they haven't changed. C'mon Steve you have got to get more involved in attack. Your defense in terrific but you just not the same player you were twol years ago, that being the best back rower in the world. But at the end of all that i know that Manly will be back in 98 but don't leave it to late.

So far, I have to say that Mark Carroll (as with most of the other London Broncos players) has been something of a disappointment. He came over here with a terrific reputation, but in his first two or three games, he and Grant Young have had major problems - Young in particular, who has given away a huge number of penalties and seems totally unable to keep hold of the ball.
But, at last, Carroll started to show some form in the last twenty minutes of the Halifax BlueSox game on Sunday, with several powerful runs: it was one of these that set up our only try, so maybe he's going to come good at last. (God knows, we need him at his best after our dreadful performances all round).
A thoroughly cross London Broncos fan.
A SOLUTION TO MANLY,S PROBLEMS PLAY TOOVEY AT HOOKER - SERDARIS AT LOCK - KOSEF AT FIVE-EIGHT , WILL ADD STABILITY AND SPEED FROM THE PLAY THE BALL.
ALEX
Simone, I have to agree with your comments yet again, although I'd go further and drop Field from the books altogether - Toovey is Manly's halfback. Maybe then we could get Carroll back (we really need his 'go-forward' play) - I read that he is unhappy in the UK.
On the positive side, I have a few comments...
Manly may have found their future five-eighth. Luke Phillips' try-creating dummy and pass to Menzies on Friday night were pure 'Lyons' magic. Steve Menzies has shown flashes of his past attacking brilliance with his try on Friday and a few half breaks over the last few weeks. Terry Hill will score his fair share of tries this year and Hancock (why aren't we seeing him for the full game?) has been solid on the wing. Kosef and Gartner play themselves to a standstill each week and Toovey leads the team by example.
I am especially glad to see that the team has stopped the fruitless exercise of arguing with referees...
Here's hoping that the Sea Eagles show their true form against the Raiders on Sunday.

Could someone please explain to me why Manly seem to have had a "garage sale" of their players after last year's grand final? (And not just first graders....) And why is it that they were suddenly having to tighten their belts financially while other clubs kept buying up players?
The greatest loss for me will always be Mark Carroll. Here was a great forward who loved playing for Manly & especially rep football for his state & country, now languishing in the UK at the height of his career. I can understand Spud needing to support his family financially & if Manly told him they didn't have enough money to keep him on or else he would have to face a drop in pay, well he probably felt he had to go, given that a footballer's career only lasts while he can play. Manly knew they were losing Cement due to retirement & they had the audacity to let Spud go. Now they're paying the price with sub-standard defence & no fire.
Maybe they should have cut the salaries of some others, such as Craig Field, who refuses to be a team player, instead of getting rid of one of their best in Mark Carroll. I dread to think what Manly are going to be like when Cliffy leaves (not that we see him on the field all that much these days).......
You'd think that in this year especially, Manly would want to prove they were a worthy team to represent the whole Sydney region north of the Harbour Bridge.
It seems the club administration at Manly has shot itself in the foot by showing the door to some of the best players who weren't looking to leave, not just in first grade, but also the junior ranks. And for some reason the players left in first grade seem to be playing like they've lost their way.
I know we fans have come to expect a lot of Manly & understood that this year was going to be tough, but never like this.
Simone
Currently Disgruntled Manly fan
what has happened.............
where is the go forward.............
where is the "brick wall" defence.....which was the best in the league
where does manly find a couple of FORWARDS that will go forward
If someone out there can give me a reasonable answer to these questions it would be very much appreciated..........
Being a Manly-Warringah supporter for the past 26 years and having played local junior league in the Manly district (playing with one Mr S.fulton), I find it very perculiar that Manly re-signed Scott Fulton and let Matt Guberina go.............
Surely at this stage they need forwards to go forward, not half whits that NO other club would allow play even in reserve grade.......
Take up lawn bowls Scott.........thats a good game to practice dropping balls on the ground
Ben and Simone
Well said! Scott Fulton is a not a first grader yet his father continues to play him while ignoring the real local junior talent. Craig Field ran around on Friday night like a headless chook and kept turning the ball back inside. Poor Craig Hancock caught a cold out on the left wing! We all know Geoff Toovey is the best half back at Manly and I honestly can't fathom why Manly brought Field to the club. They should have spent their time and MONEY! trying to entice local juniors like Ivan Cleary and Jack Elsegood to return to the club and in keeping Shannon Nevin.
How's this for a Manly team?
Shannon Nevin, Jack Elsegood, Terry Hill, Ivan Cleary, Craig Hancock, Cliff Lyons, Geoff Toovey, Nick Kosef, Daniel Gartner, Steve Menzies, Anthony Collela, Jim Serdaris, Neil Tierney
Let's see Cliff play the entire game! Manly needs him there for the full 80 minutes.
Sue :-)
I heartily agree with Ben Jones in regards to Scott Fulton but especially Craig Field . They need a playmaker out there - the one who's been doing the job so well for so long. Let's hope Cliffy decides on another couple of years!
Simone
What is wrong with Bob Fulton? Must he persist to put his son on the park in front of Cliffy Lyons. I can't remember the last good thing Scott Fulton did out on the field. Continuos high tackles, dropped balls and knock ons cause the Manly team to be put under extreme pressure. Another thing, Why the hell did we buy Craig Field? He was the biggest waste of money ever. Cliff deserves to be on and not field. Bring back the old man!!
Ben Jones
Manly are the greatest team in the world. When someone says that they hate manly, they are only exemplifying their sad, chaotic, insecurity that their team will never be as successful and as exciting to watch as the might Sea-Eagles. That goes for moronic bulldog supporters too. Manly have more locally produced stars in their team than most other Sydney teams. Look at how many local manly players that norths and easts have stolen over the years.
Manly-Warringah.... our home by the sea....... teach us to live in harmony..... our's is this fairland.......to hold forever more......(i can't remember the last line).
All those Manly supproters should get out there to brooky this year and show your love for the greatest of teams. MANLY!!!
Curly
Its great to see such a cool site. I had grown up in Balgowlah for many years, and followed the Sea Eagles as a boy. I've been living stateside for about 10 years now, and have only gotten on line about 2 years ago. Great to see that theres still a way can follow the Eagles from over here!! A co-worker of mine is a Paramatta fan, so we need to beat them in round four so I can rub it in!!!!!!

Great Site. I just need to let something off my chest. For one: I loved Manly, but they aren't the same since Cement left. I miss that man!!! Another thing is that I'm a bit shirty about Rugby League in the country. My two boys love rugby league, and here in the country I feel that we are being neglected. Juniors who have a passion for the game have no one to look up to.. We have more Swans players coming here to promote their game than league players. Would it hurt them too much for one or two of them to come out here every now and again and let the juniors know that they aren't forgotten. The kids here would really benefit from a couple of their idols coming out and showing that they care about country rugby league: after all, a hell of a lot of the "top notch" players grew up in the country: David Gillespie, Brett Mullins, Laurie Daley, Paul Dunn, Peter Stirling, Paul Harrigan, Steve Mortimer and the list goes on... It's just sad to think that the grass roots level in the country is being neglected.
Peace, and hoping that Manly picks up a bit,

Who the hell does this Barry Gommersall think he is?How did he even get an interview on T.V.To knock Bozo like he did is incredible.I think he must have swallowed his whistle with the metal bit going down the wrong way & the little ball heading upwards into the brain as he did appear to be as far away as the mars pathfinder (& they have lost that forever). And is that the man that was referee of state of origins only a decade ago.Well I suppose some people age quicker than others .
.......One tip Mr Gommersall, stick to your politics as people tend not to focus on Z grade politicians.
WOODY from the CENTRAL COAST
To bad the Sea Eagles behaved like turkeys, whinging & wining their way through the match against the Broncos. The Sea Eagles antics turned what should have been one of the greatest games of the year, into such a start, stop, affair that it had me wondering what the hell their game plan was all about.
LETS PLAY FOOTBALL !

The follwing is a quote from S.M.H.18/3/98: "Harrigan admitted he had DONE HIS HOMEWORK ON MANLY and TOOVEY"... If that is not premeditated bias, then only god can save our game. Bozo got his spelling wrong, he meant to say "Harrigan is a long haired LIAR (not lair). Tooves your a legend, and keep this clown on his toes... Finally, Manly will be there when it counts, but we're definetly light up front. Corey Underwood though showed a lot of promise.
GO MANLY!!!!!!!!!!
Bad luck on last Friday Manly, we're all going to get some tough decisions at ANZ this year. For mine I thought Bill was premature in sending Toovey off; he was mouthing off which normally I'd condemn but he's the captain, he thought he was getting some unfair calls as you always seem to do in front of a big crowd in Brisbane and it was the big-hype season opener; it made what could have been a good game ordinary. But good luck for the rest of the year, you're going to need it when you play the Dogs!
Bulldog
Hi Manly fans.
I have a couple of comments to make about Friday nights game against Brisbane. These are my opinions and if they should offend anyone, believe me, that is not my intention.
First, as much as I hate to say it, Manly were outplayed by Brisbane. On our performance we didn't deserve to win Our attack just never seemed to get working and out defense was, at times, disorganised.
Secondly, Bill Harrigan. I know he has copped some flack for this game and every bit of it is deserved. Even if you listened to the Channel 9 commentators, they said, without actually saying it (even confirmed Bronco lover Wally Lewis) that Harrigan was being biased at times. I mean, isn't a captain allowed to ask the ref what was the meaning of that ruling? Toovey asked him a question and without hesitation Harrigan marched him 10 metres! When Toovey tried again he got binned. Langer was asking questions and nothing happened. Manly didn't play all that well but didn't commit 17 fouls to Brisbanes 6.
For my third and final point, as a coach myself, I thought that Fulton's comment s regarding Harrigan were over the top and should have been kept to the game, not his personal appearance. What he said is schoolboy stuff and has no place in a professional environment.
Anyway, I hope the Eagles hammer my home town team at Brookie this week, and show Harrigan and all the other Manly haters out there that we are not as bad as they would like to think.

Adelaide.
Have decided to go to Canada & Alaska this year & the month of September looks like being the right time. Even though I've always been a huge Manly fan I can't see them making the finals this year. That's just my opinion & I'm hoping I'm wrong, but given the amount of players they've lost since winning in '96 I think it'll be pretty hard for them to make it in '98. The right amount of good players who work well together make a good team, & when the team loses a few of its best, it takes a while to build itself back into a good side. This happens with every team, though. It's a cyclical thing where a team that was really good one year doesn't do so well the next when it loses players, or one that was bad one year gets some better players & gets in the top 8 the next year. I've supported Manly since I was little & have seen them go through good & bad times, like any team.
As for all this crap over Friday's game, let's face it, if Manly's in the game, ther's sure to be controversy these days. If you're a Manly fan & fed up with all the garbage, just don't bother reading papers or watching shows where all the footy "experts" give us their biased opinions. After seeing in Monday's Telegraph an article entitled: "Toovey drama masks Manly failure" I decided not to bother with RL in the newspapers this year. The best thing is to watch the game (live or if it's away - on TV) then draw your own conclusions.

It's a shame! This is the time when fans should be talking, and hearing reports about, the great football we saw in the first round of the NRL. Instead we are caught up in controversy about a judicial hearing involving one of the best and fairest players ever to play the great game of Rugby League. Geoff Toovey still has my admiration and respect.

To "Woody":
You are kidding you clown. You buy a bloody team and still can't win the competition I think you should have changed the uniform to maroon and white dresses as every manly player is a big bloody girl.

I read some of the comments about the game on Friday night and i think there are a lot of narrow minded people out there.Let me ask you a question.Would you stand there and take that verbal abuse from one of the games most annoying little shits,or would you take the only action that is open to Bill to control the game.I referee touch football and that sort of language and disrespect is not tolerated and should not be tolerated in todays game . We are trying to teach our children to treat others as we would like to be treated, and i am willing to bet that if Bill talked to Toovey in that way he would be complaining about that too.
James (Gladstone,QLD)
Bobby Fulton is the biggest bullshit artist to hit the coaching sidelines. When will he wake up to himself and teach his players to play football like the rest of the league. Hopoate is the biggest thug on the field at present and if he wants to be taken seriously by his son then he should grow up and learn to take the punishment when it is given. Toovey should learn to keep his big mouth shut and stop whinging and keep playing the game - that's what people pay to see...
Go Canterbury - we'll show this so called team how to play the game!!!
I'm 40 and have been watching league since 1967. Prior to moving to Adelaide 9 years ago I was a Cronulla. So, I saw Bozo when he was a player. Big Jack Gibson said that you have to get the front office right and then the rest will flow. You're not going to like this, but, until Manly get rid of Bozo they'll never get rid of the discipline thing that haunts them. It doesn't matter what he did or didn't say at half time last week or, whenever (now, we all remember the Cement Truck issue, I was at that game)...What does matter is what he says to his players in the dressing room. If he backed Toovey then he's a clown. Toovey's always in the ref's face. Sure, you can ask questions when you're a captain. I used to ref union when I was a kid and actually did a 5th grade game at Concord. As far as I'm concerned you get one question, and one only. If you're honest you know that what I'm saying is right. You did well to get rid of that clown Ridge. Look at that stink he put on that time on the goal line?
It really surprises me that Boz is like this. I mean, with his backround as a physical fitness instructor in the Army and all. Hmmm...Now, this week, Reddy's an old hench man from way back. Saw him play a few too. If I was him, I'd be telling the lads to go and niggle those Sea Eagles. Give away a penality here and there for holding down, plenty of sledging as well. Give them the shits and then take advantage of it.

JOKE....................''What has my football tipping & Bill Harrigan got in common''
ANSWER.................................. WE CAN ONLY GET BETTER
I actually think enough said on that matter the better.
After the game on Friday night I don't know about anyone else but I must have received about 20 phone calls saying ''Manly can't win the comp'' or ''Manly won't finish in the top ten'' or ''See they have lost to many players''.
Well I'm glad people are thinking that way because we will go in as the underdogs & that will be good for a couple of weeks.I actually thought Manly's defence was great on Friday night.Everything went against us & it just looked like we we were not supposed to win.We had no field position in attack & we were not allowed to get any either.I really do feel sorry for Adelaide on Sunday.I would have love to have seen Manly play Sydney City on Sunday so we could put a few personalities back in there little black holes. Then I could ring up 20 people & give them my thoughts.
Peter Sterling might have been a great player but his sly little comments over the last couple of years about Manly are a disgrace. If you listen to him carefully he is always anti-Manly & will never stick up for us even if something has gone against us.So I'd like to hear other regulars feed back on that to see if others have noticed as well...........That doesn't mean I dislike him as I think he has a great football brain but when he starts talking Manly I just ignore him.Must be bad if he is bagging us & Roy Masters is sticking up for us.
Anyway I wouldn't worry to much about Friday's match as we play them again in round 6 at Brookvale & I would say get your tickets early for that one as we want a full house so we can get behind them & show Brisbane why Manly will & have been the number one side in the last few years & will be for a long time to come.
cheers WOODY from the CENTRAL COAST

I've been watching league now for 20 yrs and have never seen a refereeing performance like that, good on Fulton for speaking out,i just wonder how the "new" competion will be now that the ARL sold us out to those Murdoch mongrels.
RIP RUGBY LEAGUE
If Harrigan is the best referee the NRL has to offer then the game is already dead. Last Friday was the most disgraceful refereeing performance I have ever witnessed and I think it is time for the Manly Club to stand behind its players and coach. I know it is a drastic step to take but I believe the Manly Club should advise the NRL that as a matter of principle and support for players, coach and supporters the Club will forfeit any future matches to which Harrigan is appointed as referee.
Brian Hallett
Well, is that the sound of Manly whinging or what? Gosh, the rugby league must have started. If they spent less time mouthing off and more time trying to score they might have done better. Hoppo deserves all he gets, Harrigan should have patted him on the head on the way off.
Go Bill!!
"The war is over?"
Somebody should tell Bozo Fulton. He claims that Bill Harrigan is bigger than the game. For years Manly and Fulton have thought they have been the biggest. If the Super League war did nothing else it forced a serious changing of the guard. Bozo was obviously not listening to the ideals expressed by those players and clubs that joined SL. The bleat I always hear from ARL stalwarts is " it's breaking tradition". Didn't the founding of Rugby League break tradition 90 years ago. Get real Fulton & Co. You're ruining a great club AND the rebirth of the unified game.
Grow up and shutup Bozo.
I'm sorry but if ARL teams are going to have to put up with any more over refereeing like Harrigan put on Manly Friday night, then this unified comp has lost me. A point in question, of the two captains on the field one knocked a player out with a head high tackle and one hurt the feelings of a super league prima donna. No surprise the lesser of the two evils was rewarded with a last minute send off. I don't doubt that most of the penalties against Manly were warranted, my main complaint was that another half dozen or so that could have been awarded to Manly were let go..MEMO Harrigoon, if a player is in front of a kicker then he is off side.
I don't understand why Manly let so many class players go at the same time. They could have used a few Carroll charges up the middle. Their go forward was non existant.
Great web site.
Ken (Taree NSW)
I would like to say I really liked the performance of the Manly team yesterday and despite the defeat the sea eagles are going to win the mighty premiership just you wait and see. GO THE SEA EAGLES.
After watching our first game against the Broncos it is clear that we are going to do it tough up front this year. Even with Gartner to come back we don't seem to have the necessary thrust up front to match it with the top six or eight sides.
I was very pleased with Luke Phillips and I think he will add safety at the back but our backline looked very ordinary with the exception of Albert Torrens. Anyway beeing a supporter is about taking the good with the bad but please why does Scott Fulton get a go week after week !
I cannot finish without passing comment on Hoppa and Bill Harrigan. Hoppa is the quintessential meat head, so much raw physical prowess but not an ounce of brain to match. Bill Harrigan is a total show pony and his treatment of our team was a disgrace, it is sad to see a guy taking the limelight out of the game.
Mario (recuero_m@stgeorge.com.au)
i thought the super league, arl war was dead, judging by bill haragons performance last night i think its very much alive. if i were captain for manly last night i would have asked the whole team to walk off in protest after what he did in the first 20 minutes,if anyone diserves to be suspended its haragon not tooves and hoppa.

To all you Manly supporters out there,
HOW CAN YOU? How can you like a team that BUYS talent! Manly would have to be my all time WORST team! Now St.George!!!!!! THERE'S a Rugby League team!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry to say this but Manly suck!!!!!! I wouldn't hate Manly NEARLY as much if that ugly-faced winge machine wasn't there!!!! Does Geoff Toovey actually know how to play footy? Because he spends so much time complaining, we never see him play!!! Manly itself isn't so bad, it's just that Geoff Toovey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
