Five Manly players have been named in the City Origin side
to play Country on Friday night. Terry Hill, Steve Menzies
and Mark Carroll all retain their positions from last year,
Geoff Toovey returns to the side after missing last year's
game through injury, while Daniel Gartner makes his
representative debut, chosen as a fresh reserve.

Manly have overcome a spirited Crushers outfit, defeating
them 14-6 at Suncorp Stadium earlier today. Try-machine Steve
Menzies scored early compliments of a Cliff Lyons kick into the
in-goal, Manly leading 8-0 at the break. An 80 metre effort from Shannon
Nevin late in the second half then saw the Eagles home. In
a game best described as sloppy, the handling from both sides
was very poor, and coach Bob Fulton will no doubt be relieved
to come away from the Cauldron with a win. Coming off the bench,
Jim Serdaris made his first grade premiership debut for Manly
and played strongly. Next Sunday, the struggling North Queensland
Cowboys face up to Manly in front of the Brookvale home crowd.

The South Queensland Crushers have been given 14.5 points
start against Manly on the weekend. The Sea Eagles have named
an unchanged starting line up from last week's team, with
new buys Neil Tierney and Jim Serdaris both included on
the bench. Bob Fulton has revealed the team's interesting
goal-kicking strategy for 1996. Des Hasler will take kicks
from the left hand side of the field and Craig Innes,
a left-footer, will take those from the right.

The Eagles returned to form last night with a solid 22-10
victory over Auckland at Brookvale. The Manly defence was
just too good for a Warriors side which seemed to be
more interested in high tackles than winning the game.
Starring for Manly, as always, were Lyons and Menzies,
with Hill, Innes and Gartner also contributing strongly. Next Sunday
it's South Queensland who come up against Manly at Suncorp
Stadium.
17 Apr 1996
Terry Hill has been named in the starting line-up to face Auckland
on Friday night despite dislocating his shoulder just two weeks
ago. Jim Serdaris is also expected to return from injury in reserve
grade.

A win is a win - that's what Manly are saying after their streaky
10-6 victory over the Gold Coast at Carrara last night. The Eagles
led 10-0 with 20 minutes to go, but a late try and some sustained
attack from the Chargers tested the Manly defence to the limit.
Manly's next game will be played against Auckland at Brookvale
on Friday night.

Another disappointing performance earlier today, and humiliation
too, as Manly were defeated 20-10 by arch-rivals Norths at North Sydney
Oval. In front of a good crowd of some 21 000, the Eagles were doing
it easy with five minutes to go in the first half, leading 6-0
and looking totally in control. But then a disastrous ten minutes saw
them collapse in defence to fall behind 6-18, before a late Steven
Menzies try added some respectability. Best for Manly were Cliff Lyons
and Daniel Gartner - the Eagles take on the Gold Coast at Carrara next
Sunday.
04 Apr 1996
Terry Hill has dislocated his shoulder and will be out of action
for four to six weeks. However, Craig Hancock is expected to
make an earlier than expected return from injury and should
be playing again within two weeks. In the Manly team for this weekend's
game against North Sydney, Shannon Nevin returns to first grade
to replace Hill, while errant fullback Matthew Ridge has been
named as a reserve for reserve grade.
01 Apr 1996
Manly defeated the Gold Coast 36-22 in an unconvincing performance
yesterday at Brookvale Oval. A cricket score looked in order when Steve
Menzies scored after just three minutes, and the Sea Eagles went
on with the job, Cliff Lyons pulling the strings to put Manly up
30-6 at half-time. However the second half was a different matter,
the Chargers fighting back to 30-22 before a late Manly try sealed the
result. Eagles coach Bob Fulton gave his team one out of ten
for their second half performance. Best players were Lyons, Daniel
Gartner and John Hopoate. Manly have an away game against
North Sydney on Sunday.
