12 Dec 1996: Des heads West
Long-serving utility Des Hasler has come out of retirement,
and has signed to play with Western Suburbs next year.
Meanwhile, Soloman Haumono faces legal action if he
follows through with his plans to play with the Sydney
Bulldogs in 1997 - Haumono has signed an ARL loyalty
agreement.
22 Nov 1996: Field debuts
Craig Field will play his first game for Manly on Sunday,
when the Eagles taken on Sydney City in an exhibition
game to be played in Japan.
24 Oct 1996: Cement to stay?
Retiring prop David Gillespie is considering returning for
one final season with the Sea Eagles. With the departure
of Owen Cunningham, Gillespie's experience and workrate could
be invaluable when Manly mounts their 1997 premiership campaign.
In other player news, Craig Field is close to signing with Manly,
while Justin Dooley will only be coming to Brookvale if he can be
released from his Super League contract.
04 Oct 1996: Super League
Super League's appeal to the Federal Court has been successful,
and it appears there will be two competitions in 1997.
01 Oct 1996: Withdrawals
Steve Menzies has a corked thigh and has had to withdraw from the Australian
side to play PNG. Manly's Nik Kosef has been named
as his replacement. Danny Moore has also been brought into the side,
replacing the injured Robbie O'Davis.
