11 Jul 1997: A big win
Manly rolled South Queensland 46-12 on Sunday, a first attempt at putting
the debacle of the previous round behind them. The Eagles led 16-12 with
20 minutes to go, but a rush of points in the closing stages sent out
a reminder of what this team can do when they're hot. Next Friday night
the Manly side will travel to the SFS to face the Sydney City Roosters - the
two teams' round five clash was probably the game of the season so far.

01 Jul 1997: Australian team named
Five Manly players have been named in the Australian Test
side to face the Rest of the World later in the month.
Geoff Toovey has been picked at half-back, but relinquishes
the Australian captaincy to Brad Fittler. Also in the side
are Mark Carroll, Terry Hill and Steve Menzies, while
Nik Kosef is on the bench. All five players were members
of the victorious NSW State of Origin side.
